Our strawberries have made it through winter stronger and more numerous than ever, so I took advantage of the dry weather to replant all the free children plants.
Our strawberry patch is having its best year ever, delivering more strawberries every day than we can possibly hope to eat. And now our raspberries are starting to fruit, too.
A pest in the strawberry patch is eating our fruits almost as quickly as we can pick them. The culprit looks like it might be woodlice, but until we can be sure we’re not sure how to fight back.
With fruit it’s often best to wait and see. Bide your time, wait a year or two and you’ll be rewarded by the kind of crop we’re expecting from our strawberries this year.
The strawberry patch looks like it’s going to provide us with a bumper crop this year. It’s a happy accident that we left them in the plot all winter, as we really did think that the frost and ice had killed them off.
After a disappointing strawberry crop last year we’re keeping our fingers crossed for some bumper pickings this year as the plants have survived the winter and now seem to be thriving.
Something is eating the best strawberries, and it certainly isn’t us. To be honest, I’m quite at a loss to explain what it is. I don’t think it’s slugs or snails, as there is no sign of either anywhere in the plot, and I’ve been using an organic killer to keep them away.
