We’ve just eaten the first of this year’s crops. Admittedly it was only lettuce, but we celebrated by pulling up three whole baby heads, dousing them with some dressing and eating them with half a lunchtime pizza each. Sadly no tomatoes to go with it yet.
A good lettuce is so much more than just limp green leaves. This year’s specimens have been a particular success, which we’re putting down to the fact that they’ve been grown under glass, rather than out in the garden.
Our various salad crops are approaching readiness, and with 23 tomato plants of four different varieties to choose from we’re hoping for plenty to eat, and even more left over for another batch of chutney to see us through the winter.
