Even Delia Smith, one of the richest women in Britain, is leaping on the current frugal bandwagon.

Frugal Food, her fourth book, is being republished next month, 32 years after its first appearance. It’s been updated and reprinted constantly since its 1976 arrival and it will be good to see what it looks like in its 2008 edition, particularly as the only review on Amazon to garner less than full marks said it was looking a little tired.

It’s well stocked by the various suppliers who sell their products through Abe Books, so I’ve nabbed an old copy there for 56p to see what advice the queen of cuisine has to offer. Buy the new edition, though, and you can feel rosy and warm as all of the royalties will be donated to charity. From the look of things, Delia herself won’t be making a penny out of the new edition.

Hunting for it on Amazon, though, I was very tempted to bag a copy of another book I found, How to Feed Your Whole Family a Healthy Balanced Diet, with Very Little Money and Hardly Any Time, Even If You Have a Tiny Kitchen, Only Three Saucepans … – Unless You Count the Garlic Crusher…, if only for the fact that it would have the longest title in the whole house.
