<p>Well I don&#8217;t think there&#8217;s much doubt that all three of our chooks are laying eggs now. Barbara and Margot have been giving us a regular supply of cream and brown eggs since September, but this last week those regular arrivals have been joined by pink ones. You can see in the picture above how they differ from the brown ones (pink in the front, brown at the back).</p>
<p>The colour of a chicken&#8217;s eggs is determined by its ears, which sit at the tops of their necks beside some little feathery flaps. Gerry&#8217;s really are quite pink, and her plumage is a bit gingery pink, too.</p>
<p>That still wouldn&#8217;t be enough to convince us on its own, though: there are probably all sorts of reasons why Barbara&#8217;s eggs might redden up a bit or Margot&#8217;s might pale, but the fact that we got three eggs yesterday, for the first time ever, was the clincher for us.</p>
<p>Normally hybrid chickens like ours only lay one egg a day, so it would be unusual for one of them to have laid two within half a day, and of different colours.</p>
<p>So it looks like Gerry was just a late developer after all. We had started to think she might be barren.</p>
