I think we should stress the first two letters of November: NO. Specifically NO eggs from two of our three hens for most of the month.

Poor old Margot is dropping feathers quicker than a pillow fight and she looks quite a state (or at least as far as we can tell she does, but we’re leaving so early and getting home from work so late that we don’t really see them in proper daylight). It’s well known that this impacts chickens’ egg laying activities, but it seems that Barbara, who hasn’t lost any new feathers in ages is playing the sympathy card and has gone on egg strike, too.

That leaves only Gerry laying at all, so since 13 November we’ve had no more than one egg a day (and on three days we’ve had no eggs at all).

Unfortunately this has coincided with us being away for a week (hence the paucity of posts on Blagger) and as we’d asked our neighbours to look after them we felt guilted into leaving them a box of six eggs we’d saved up to make up for it. Result: no eggs for us.

Oh, well. Just as well we’re not relying on them entirely to feed us.
