That's slightly down on last month, and the fourth monthly decline in a row, down from a high of 91 in March.

A little late, perhaps, but I’ve tallied up the eggs laid in June. 85. That’s slightly down on last month, and the fourth monthly decline in a row, down from a high of 91 in March.

Three of those fewer eggs can be accounted for by the fact that June is a day shorter than March, of course, but what I suspect these numbers show is that despite being only a little over a year old our chickens are starting to age. That’s why battery hens are usually dispatched to the slaughter house on their first birthday, so the farmer can keep up production rates.

July is shaping up pretty well so far, so I’d expect that we’d get at least the same number of eggs this month, if not a couple more to account for the extra day.
