Transplanting the tomatoes

Tomatoes

This year is really running away with us. We’re a quarter of the way through May already, and I’m not sure how. The garden is racing, too, and so we’ve transplanted this year’s tomatoes for a second time, this time from the 9cm pots that were their homes after the paper pots, into the full-sized containers in which we hope they’ll bear fruit.

I always like potting on our seedlings. It feels like you’re making great progress, and you’re one step close to both summer and eating your produce.

I can’t believe how quickly these are shooting now. The Black Russians that we planted at the beginning of March are now coming up for 6in tall and are recognisably tomato plants. Of all the crops we’ve planted so far this year, I think that’s the one I’m most excited to see progressing well.

I can’t wait to taste them.
