We do still have some tomatoes (below), but only really enough for a couple of topped bruchetta as a starter tonight and, of course, the last of our raspberries, from the autumn-fruiting bushes.

Unfortunately we should have had more than we got, but we hadn’t tied up the rambling branches and some of them ended up on the floor. After a couple of good rain storms their fruits had rotted.

Still, we have enough to mix with our yoghurts, but it’s a bit sad. With this last harvest of fruit and the clocks going back last weekend, it’s clear that summer is well and truly over.

But autumn has its compensations, of course, like the wonderful colours in the trees. I walked through Regent’s Park the other morning in London and the scenery – despite being in the centre of the city – was beautiful.
