Green strawberry

The strawberry patch looks like it’s going to provide us with a bumper crop this year. It’s a happy accident that we left them in the plot all winter, as we really did think that the frost and ice had killed them off.

When we had friends around for the weekend last month I was really quite ashamed of the tatty brown leaves and runners, but with a bit of sun and warm weather they’ve sprung into life.

Now the plants themselves are about a foot tall, and they have bushed out to fill the patch with no sign of any visible soil between them.

The best thing, though, is the number of fruits they have on the go, and their size. They’re all still green, of course, but there if they all ripen up are some great smoothies and desserts on the way.
