Greenhouse temperature

It’s very hot right now. Great for sitting out in, but I looked in the greenhouse at the weekend to find almost everything – including the heat-loving chillies – wilting in their pots.

A quick trip to the outhouse where the receiver for the wireless sensor is kept showed why: it was over 54 degrees Celsius. By the time I’d grabbed my phone and snapped that picture above it had dropped to 53.1 as I’d left the door open, but that’s still 127.6 Fahrenheit.

Poor things. I very carefully watered the soil in the pots, making sure I didn’t splash the leaves and fry them in the sun, and opened all the windows in the roof and side.

They soon recovered, and now they’re perky and upright again, but I’ve learned my lesson: the greenhouse windows will be staying open now for the rest of the summer.
