Here’s a sorry sight: and at the same time a fairly exciting one. With summer seemingly over, I’ve spent a couple of hours emptying out the plot, tidying up the picked bean plants and the few weeds that had grown up around them.
All that we have left in the ground now are the parsnips at the very back of the plot, which used to sit in front of the onions, which are now in the kitchen waiting to be pickled.
Looking out across the freshly raked soil is quite exciting, for some inexplicable reason. It doesn’t so much mark the end of one season, but the beginning of the next, and a new experiment for the months ahead. For the first time we’re going to try growing winter crops, in the hope of an early spring harvest.

Looking forward to your tales of winter crops. I’ve only done the bog standard summer stuff so far.
I am also trying to grow winter crops in Chicago. I think it will be interesting to compare results. I am sure your climate will be more hospitable than mine. Will check back often to see your progress.
