Is there anything we can do with our left-over sloes from making sloe gin? We picked more than we thought we needed (we thought our bottles were much bigger than they turned out).
I know they were free, but after all the effort (and scratches) of picking them, I can't bring myself to throw them away.
I did a quick google and found a recipe for sloe jam.
2.5kg sloe's
2kg granulated sugar
500g golden delicious apples
Place the sloes in the deep freeze until fully frozen. This is too soften the harsh flavour that some sloes have.
Place the sloes in a bowl of hot water and leave over night.
wash and grate the apples into a large saucepan, add the sloes and cook until soft .
Add the sugar and cook until reduced by a quater to concentrate the flavours.
Taste for sweetness.
For a smooth jam pass through a sieve using a wooden spoon.
Jar up and seal well.

Thanks, SheyMouse. I never knew you could use them for jam - I always thought they would be too tart. Do you think you could let the juice drip through a muslin rather than pressing it through a seive?
I guess you could. I must admit I don't know much about sloes. Hopefully this weekend that will change with a friend donating me some for use in making sloe gin.
Tonight I embark on my first ever batch of the complicated process of making sloe gin. 
All four litres of it!
